Kinja'd!!!

Everyone is talking about how the movie was only one year off (scene set in 2015) from having an accurate prediction of the Cubs winning the World Series, so the prediction was wrong. BUT THEY WERE RIGHT!!! How, you ask?!

They didn’t factor in the 1994 BASEBALL STRIKE (which caused there to be no World Series that year) INTO THE PREDICTION!!! THEY GOT THE RIGHT WORLD SERIES, BUT THE STRIKE PUSHED IT BACK ONE GOD DAMNED YEAR TO 2016!!!!!!!!! The movie predicted that the Cubs would win the 112th World Series. THE CUBS ACTUALLY WON THE 112TH WORLD SERIES.

My mind is blown, your mind is blown, ERRBODY’S MIND IS NOW BLOWN!!!

Where in the film does it say it is the 112th WS? You just know that he’s in the year 2015.

The 112th World Series was supposed to be played in 2015, but the strike caused that series to be played in 2016. The movie was made in 1989, five years before the strike occurred.

But in the future, they would have known about the strike that occurred in the past precisely because it would have occurred in the past (the future’s past, not today’s past or 1985's past although both of those pasts would also be the future’s past). Although 1985 Marty would not have known of the strike in 1994, certainly the 2015 citizens (and Marty’s sports almanac) would have known about it. So the prediction of the future 2015 World Series was not affected by a strike that took place in its past (but would have been in 1985's future). Thus, the 1985 prediction of what took place in 2015 remains accurate (although really inaccurate due to the actual events of 2015) despite events that occurred in 1994 and were unknown in 1985 yet known in 2015.

Sorry, I’m on a long call and can’t drink, so this was the next best thing.

Pretty sure they also predicted the Marlins series early 2000s as well.

The writers didn’t know about the strike.

From now on, to make the game more fun, there will be Slip ‘N Slides starting ten feet before each base.

Someone did suggest that all outfield warning tracks should have things that the outfielders can dive into “themed” depending on the ballpark.

a ball pit

a water tank

Games shortened to 7 innings. If the game is tied at that point, then they do a home run derby where they uncage their hitters from an actual cage.
